This is a work by Kinsai Fujii, a leading ceramic artist in the creation of Arita porcelain art. The contrast between Japan's national flower, the cherry blossom, and the radiant gold is beautiful. The delicate touch with which the cherry blossoms are depicted and the unique harmony of the golden hues make this piece stand out prominently. The paint used for the gold parts is highly valuable, making this piece a truly magnificent and luxurious masterpiece.
The production technique features both underglaze blue (sometsuke) and overglaze enamels (nishiki) painting. Underglaze blue (sometsuke) is a painting technique where designs are applied to the bisque-fired body before glazing. In contrast, overglaze enamels (nishiki) is a technique where vivid colors such as red and green are added to the glazed and fired body. Both underglaze blue (sometsuke) and overglaze enamels (nishiki) have their own challenges. Combining these techniques requires exceptionally high skill, including the overall composition of the painting.
This is a masterpiece of a large vase, 35.5 cm in height, crafted with the finest techniques of potter's wheel, painting, and firing.
